I love ELFQUEST. I love STAR TREK. I love cross-overs...

There is so much potential in having radically different characters meet and interact, and so many opportunities lost by writers and TV producers not taking a chance. Outside of comics, where taking a chance of this kind can earn the creators big money and recognition, I'm hard pressed to think of an occasion where this has happened (oh, hang on, there's one - THE GREEN HORNET appeared in the classic '60s BATMAN series once. Not all that "radically different", but YOU try and name another example...)

MARVEL and DC, the two biggest comic companies in the business, recently had a winner on their hands with AMALGAM, where characters from both companies merged, combining elements of each to form something different, yet immediately recognisable. Superman and Captain America became SUPER-SOLDIER, Storm of the X-MEN and Wonder Woman became AMAZON. Marketing exercise or work of genius, I liked it.

I.S.S. GHIDORAH is a coming-together of two entities that, combined, promise so much. Fans of either are as welcome as fans of both, for each brings knowledge the other might not have, and as we share our knowledge, the enjoyment for all is sure to benefit.

Confused by the world of ELFQUEST? Let the fans of Wendy and Richard Pini's characters show you the way. The elves live in a world as rich as any other, with thousands of years of history to fall back on.

Bewildered by the worlds of STAR TREK? The show's fans have always been happy to share their enthusiasm with others, no matter how uninterested or hostile those "others", usually the press, might be.

Unsure what to make of this? Simply dive in, and see - even the Great Barrier Reef looks like a shapeless blur from the surface. Venture beneath, and it all becomes so startlingly clear...
