Captain Blackfire, Commander Paxton and Lieutenant Starsword were waiting for their newest crewmember to arrive in Shuttlebay Two. It was hardly regular for the Captain to greet a new waitress, but in this case she was advised to go meet this young lady as soon she had arrived on board the Ghidorah. A bit annoyed by this and the fact that the shuttle was late, Blackfire again asked if the craft was nearby. It was finally coming, and again the Captain sighed impatiently.
The Shuttlebay door opened, and a shuttle came inside, bumping the walls and floor clumsily. The threesome looked, frowning, at the sight and did a few steps backwards so that it would not hit them.
***Such a powerful sender, is she an elf?***, Starsword asked as the shuttle touched down, and the hum of the engines died away.
***No - I most certainly am not.***, came the reply immediately, before Blackfire could answer Starsword herself.
A young woman came out of the shuttle, cursing in Paxton's language, making the Commander grin. She kicked the shuttle and then turned to the three waiting officers. "Sorry, but I can hardly count shuttles as good friends when I pilot one myself." She vanished back inside the shuttle again, and came out with a bat'leth and bag which she let hang from her shoulder. "Greetings. I was not informed that I would be awaited by someone. I am VanQa, waitress, and who are you?"
It was not VanQa's rudeness which startled the elves. She had her Klingon heritage for all to see on her forehead, so that explained her manners. No, it was the strength of her empathic and telepathic abilities that shocked the two elves, for never before had either of them met someone who was not an elf yet could Send as strongly as this young person.
Blackfire hid her amazement and stepped forward to greet VanQa. "Welcome on board of the ISS Ghidorah, VanQa. I am Captain Blackfire."
"Ah, the Captain - well, very nice to meet you, Cap." Again the young woman defied the look on the captain's face.
"I am to be referred to as Lord or Captain, young lady."
"Lord? Never! Captain? I just called you that."
They shook hands, taking a good look at each other. VanQa wore a black catsuit, with white thigh high boots and a white jacket loose over her suit.
***Where is your pilot?***, Starsword asked.
"That rude whelp...?" The girl looked at the shuttle. "He's out cold somewhere in there."
***Knocked out?***
VanQa nodded. "Had to knock him unconscious. He insulted my honour."
Paxton grinned. "Your Honour? Does a waitress have any honour then?"
VanQa's eyes flashed dangerously, and with a speed no one could anticipated she gave the Commander a hard blow in the face with one of her delicate but strong fists. "Don't mock me or what I am. Waitresses indeed have honour and besides that I have my own feelings towards honour." She walked passed the three without any sign of pardon.
***VanQa!*** Blackfire sended. There was something strange about this woman that actually made Blackfire like her.
"Yes, Cap." VanQa turned around to face the captain with a smile.
***Where do you think you are going?***
"Well, you have your duties, so have I. I am going to my quarters and to Ten Forward to meet those whom I'll work with and to do my job. You probably also have better things to do than to be here."
***I did not gave you permission to go.***
"Sorry then, Cap. Am I excused now?"
Starsword smiled. She had actually met someone of which she could not immediately tell if she liked her or not.
"You are, but I want you in my ready room as soon as you are settled. There are certain rules on board this vessel and it seems to me that I must explain them to you."
***OK, Cap.***
She left, leaving the officers behind.
"Is that a waitress?!" Paxton exclaimed. "What a Brad - she actually dare to hit me."
"Finally, someone dares to", Starsword said to the Commander.
Paxton gave her an angry look and then walked away too.
***Did you feel that, Lord?***
***Of course I did. Watch her, chief, I do not think she means harm, but I don't want be fooled.***
***Is she really just a waitress?***
***Yes I am*** came the reply out of nothing. ***Maybe you find it hard to believe, but I have done this work for quite some time and I love it. I like to be around people no matter who or what they are. Ten Forward is the perfect place to entertain and my special entertainment is that I have patient ears and a helpful voice. Try it when you ever feel like you need someone to talk to!***
The captain and Starsword looked at each other. This was extrordinary. They both could not help smiling, this rude young lady will blend in nicely in time.
